Strategy and Management , this is a topic which i have always overheard in family discussions. Being a science student i had zero knowledge about strategy and management but was always keen to know more about this topic , that was the main reason behind me choosing this elective. So our first session began with a basic introduction of ourselves since all of us were new faces. Then sir asked us about our opinions and what do we want to learn from this course and what do we know about this course . All of us added our points , for some of them this was a very new topic and some of them already knew about it.
Almost everyone wanted to know more about start ups, to expand their family business and learn how to become a better manager. Sir took all our points into consideration and mad a plan of whatever he thought is important and should be taught in the following session.
Taking notes of whatever you discuss or whatever new ideas you come up with is one of the most important things you should do if you want to stand out in any field.
Sir then told us the most basic skills and habits one should have to become a better manager should be :- * People management * Money management * Time management These 3 factors play an important role in the life of a businessmen.
Sir also gave us a few examples to help us understand the topic in a better way and also asked us a few questions like :-1] In this economy would you prefer buying a car a renting a car ? 2] If you are the CEO of BMW and you have to travel for a business trip from India to Australia would you rather rent a private jet or fly in a business class with a 3 hour stopover ? All of us gave our answers with justifications , some of them made sense and a few of them were just random answers. These examples helped us understand more about time and money management.
Here comes the best part, Sir introduced us to a very riveting game named Catan, none of us had ever heard about this game before. It looked pretty interesting and I am looking forward to play this board game. This game would help us improve our strategy and management skills.
