Imaging -2 [week 6] [10/02/2020] Jai Sir

In today’s class we learnt about different types of bindings. Sir gave us a list of different types of binding along with an explanation to each of them. He also told us to check a site called studentbookbinding.co.uk for a better understanding for each of them.

The various types of bindings are :- 1] Saddle stitch :- saddle stitch is a stitch of a thread or a wire staple passed through the fold of a magazine or a booklet. It,s one of the easiest types of binding. 2] Perfect binding :-A perfect bound book is also referred to as a softcover book. It is formed when the book pages are glued together at the spine. The cover is usually made from a thicker card stock and laminated or coated to protect the book. 3] Kettle bind/Section sewn :- In kettle binding a knot is formed in the sewing thread at the ends of the sections to hold them together. 4] Spiral bind :- In spiral binding ,a notebook or booklet, in which the pages are fastened together by a spiral of wire or plastic that coils through a series of holes punched along one side of each page and the front and back covers. 5] Wiro bind :- Wiro binding a popular commercial book binding method, and is known by a number of different names including twin loop wire, wire-o, double loop wire, double-o, ring wire and wire bind. With this binding method, users insert their punched pages onto a “C” shaped spine and then use a wire closer to squeeze the spine until it is round. 6] Cased in Wiro :- A Cased-in Wiro is a bound wiro document that is inserted into a pocket or slit inside of a protective hard case, so the binding is hidden. 7] Pamphlet bind :- A pamphlet is an unbound book . Pamphlets may consist of a single sheet of paper that is printed on both sides and folded in half, in thirds, or in fourths, called a leaflet or it may consist of a few pages that are folded in half and saddled staple at the crease to make a simple book. 8] Coptic bind :- Coptic stitch book binding is another way to bind the book with a spine that opens up completely , so that one can lay their book flat. 9] Japanese binding :- Japanese binding is a method of exposed stitches useful for binding single sheets of papers where the thread creates a pattern. 10] Screw Post Binding :- These are metal rods that can be threaded through your documents to produce great looking books. It can be used to bind documents. It is the most fancy and expensive binding.

This explanation of different bindings was very helpful. I got to learn various different types of binding , i was only aware about a few of them. Each binding has its own unique feature and the purpose of all of them is to keep a book or document in one piece.

Sir introduced us to all these different bindings because they would help us in our upcoming projects that is the booklet. After getting to know about all the bindings i was curious to know how can one make them so i researched and saw videos of all the types of binding and tried a few too.
