Time – [ 07/01/2020] [ week 1 ] Jai Ranjit

Today was our first lecture for time , all of us had different interpretations of the subject. We started of with discussing what is time and what all would we learn in this subject. Time is an abstract concept. Time is a unique individual abstract thing . Distraction is a key component in time. There are numerous ways to understand time. Time is a design tool , it is microcosmic . We use 60 seconds as a base to measure time. We use time as a method of thinking and consideration of how people perceive time.

Time is defined as :- PACE [ in order to fully understand pace you have to capture frame ] FRAME EXPERIENCE ORDER SEQUENCE MOVEMENTS [ sequence creates movements , any sensory movements shifts us ] PERCEPTION [ all of us perceive time is a different way ] NARRATIVES.

We listened to the song SHINE ON YOU CRAZY DIAMOND in the background . The purpose of the song was to identify changes in the pace. We also learnt universals and particulars . Universals are class of independent identities , Particulars are said to be similar in virtue of sharing universals.

HOW IS TIME RECORDED? Time is recorded in the form of documentaries , seasons , crop cycle [ for farmers] , how a human grows [ age] , distance , speed , routine .

We watched the film AN OCCURRENCE AT OWL CREEK BRIDGE . It is a short story by an American writer, it was set at the time of american civil war. We heard another song ANOTHER BRICK IN THE WALL. Sir also told us to watch a set of movies like 2001 – A SPACE ODYSSEY, INTERSTELLAR, BOHEMIAN RHAPSIDY , QUEEN PERFORMANCE , LOVE DEATH AND ROBOTS to understand time better.

We discussed briefly about our next project . Our next project was going to be based on narratives. Narratives are a spoken or written account of connected events ; a story . We were supposed to come up with 3 narratives for the next class , the narratives were supposed to be any event which took place in our life and has various emotions attached to it and should show the aspect of time.

We also saw various paintings of RAGMALA and RENAISSANCE and the difference between them. Ragmala stories are portrayed in the same style whereas renaissance paintings show different stories in different styles. Through this we got to know how time has evolved and how different styles portray different scenes.
